Many folks don’t know their T1 and Ghia were originally equipped with these.

T1 pads fit in the C-pillar, just forward of the engine compartment, hidden by the tarboard panels against the firewall.

Ghia pads install behind the rear seat, forward of the rear wheel wells.

What are they used for? Well, they perform a couple key functions:

1. 1.   They dampen engine noise from resonating forward through the hollow chassis
   

2. 2.   They keep hot air and fumes from the engine compartment out of your cabin
   

You can be certain those VW engineers put those in there for a good reason!
